Yield to Pedestrians

NEW YORK HAS A NEW LAW
MAKING IT SAFER TO USE
CROSSWALKS

  • Slow down or stop for pedestrians crossing any part of the crosswalk.
  • Crosswalks can be marked or unmarked at corners and intersections.
  • Slow down or stop for pedestrians crossing 4 or 6 lane roadways.
  • For separated/divided roads, slow down or stop only on your side of the road.
  • Trucks/Buses slow down or stop.
  • Bicyclists slow down or stop.

TIPS FOR SHARING THE ROAD

  • WATCH for pedestrians near the roadway.
  • SLOW or stop for pedestrians using crosswalks.
  • SLOW or stop for pedestrians when turning right or left.
  • USE CARE if another car slows/stops for a pedestrian.
  • LOOK FOR pedestrians walking in the road without sidewalks.
  • FOLLOW all signals, signs and stripes at crosswalks.
  • KNOW that pedestrians with dark clothes are hard to see at night.
  • DON'T speed or park where pedestrians use crosswalks.
