Although June 21 is the first day of Summer, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer season.

	Children are out of school for the summer, families are going on vacation, and people are outdoors. Children will be playing in yards and parks and may be near the street. They may dart into the street. People will using the side of the road for bicycling, skating and walking. Watch carefully for them when you are driving.

	Summer is road construction time.  Expect delays and detours. Will you be traveling in New York State?  Check these sites for construction areas and anticipated delays. The Thruway website lists areas of construction The NYS Department of Transportation website lists construction areas on other roads in New York State. Remember, in work zones fines are doubled.
	On a warm summer day, temperatures in a vehicle can reach 150 degrees in minutes, even with the windows rolled down.  If you are parking and leaving your vehicle, please do not leave children or pets in the vehicle, even if you think you'll only be a minute.
	Does your vehicle have power windows? Injuries to fingers and hands occur when they get closed in power windows. So before closing ANY window, please make sure that everyone has all body parts inside the vehicle!
