Summer Safe Driving Tips

Although June 21 is the first day of Summer, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer season.

Swimming Children are out of school for the summer, families are going on vacation, and people are outdoors.
  • Children will be playing in yards and parks and may be near the street. They may dart into the street.
  • People will using the side of the road for bicycling, skating and walking.
  • Watch carefully for them when you are driving.

Lighthouse Heat and delays can lead to stress, fatigue and aggressive driving.
Gardening Summer is road construction time.  Expect delays and detours.

Will you be traveling in New York State?  Check these sites for construction areas and anticipated delays.

Remember, in work zones fines are doubled.
Day at the Beach On a warm summer day, temperatures in a vehicle can reach 150 degrees in minutes, even with the windows rolled down.  If you are parking and leaving your vehicle, please do not leave children or pets in the vehicle, even if you think you'll only be a minute.
Learning to Swim Does your vehicle have power windows?

Injuries to fingers and hands occur when they get closed in power windows. So before closing ANY window, please make sure that everyone has all body parts inside the vehicle!

Buckle up, wear your helmet, drive sober, and if you are boating,
wear a personal floatation device (life jacket).
